In our February 2010 edition, we included a small extract from 1950s 11 plus exams.  While most of the questions were quite easy, there was one in particular (6), that in today's world would be very hard to get right.

    (When you multiply by 25 then divide by 125 it's the same as dividing by 25)
     
  2. 100 more women
    (The village had 800 people, half were men, half women. 1/4 of the men went away which is 100 men, leaving 100 more women than men behind)

    (d) 1/10
     
  4. Beautiful, Sloping, Glassy, Friendly, Doubting, Expensive, Delightful, Sleeping, Dangerous, Sporting/Sporty
     
  5. The evening is coming,

    Straight home to the nest.
    'Caw', says the rook,
    As he flies overhead,

    Were going to bed.'
     
  6. The bishop and another gentleman then entered the hall.
